               The field of pathology has enlarged enormously in the recent past. There is a paucity of PG degree and diplomas in sub specialties/super specialties under the purview of Pathology and facilities for CME programme for practicing pathologists as also to the institutions are inadequate. There is a need for creation of a central body governing various aspects of practice of laboratory. Medicine which includes standardization and quality control programme, licensing and accreditation of laboratories and establishment of norms for laboratory technology, syllabi and courses in the field of laboratory technology. In view of the above it is considered to establish an Indian College of Pathologists under the banner of IAPM.
